The second time I opened up a cavern the bugger actually went there, walked around for a bit, and then got thirsty, so I let the bugger back into the fortress. WebApparently a dwarf has to enter the pit to get a log. They were getting logs thrown at them, which usually results in a mangled hand or Knocking them out. Then when they are knocked out dwarves continue to throw logs at them, causing many broken bones and wounds and eventually death. This was brutal to think about.
