I brought my new carrier, ring & pinions, installation kits, etc to a local transmission shop to have the new ring gear pressed onto the new carrier, and the old pinion shims removed from the old pinion to possibly reuse and check it's thickness.

I am settings up some Ford Racing 4.10 gears for a 8.8" housing. The attached photos are of the 3rd pattern. First one I had 0.028" pinion shim (behind the factory gear set) and was too deep.
